Cleaning Supervisor

A hands-on supervisory role: lead the team on site, check the work against the specification, and be the day-to-day contact for the client.

About the Role

Britain Cleaning Solutions is looking for a reliable, experienced and organised Cleaning Supervisor to join our operations team.

The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for overseeing cleaning teams, maintaining service standards and ensuring that cleaning work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the agreed client specification.

This is a hands-on supervisory position. The successful candidate will lead by example, support the team on site, monitor standards and communicate professionally with both clients and management.

Your Main Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Supervise and coordinate Cleaning Operatives and Team Leaders
  • Allocate daily cleaning duties according to the site schedule
  • Ensure team members understand their responsibilities
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality and performance
  • Brief the team on daily priorities and site requirements
  • Support new employees during induction and site familiarisation
  • Provide practical guidance and support to cleaning staff
  • Address day-to-day operational issues promptly
  • Escalate serious or recurring issues to the Operations Manager

Quality Control

  • Carry out regular inspections of completed cleaning work
  • Check cleaning against the agreed specification and required standards
  • Identify areas requiring additional attention or re-cleaning
  • Monitor cleaning standards throughout the working shift
  • Carry out quality checks during deep-cleaning and changeover projects
  • Ensure corrective actions are completed
  • Maintain inspection records and quality reports where required

Client Liaison

The Cleaning Supervisor may act as the day-to-day operational contact for the client.

You will be expected to:

  • Communicate professionally with client representatives
  • Respond appropriately to reasonable operational requests
  • Report issues and service concerns through the appropriate channels
  • Record and escalate complaints
  • Provide operational updates to management
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and site representatives

Health & Safety

You will be responsible for supporting compliance with Britain Cleaning Solutions' health and safety procedures and the requirements of each client site.

This includes:

  • Following COSHH procedures
  • Ensuring appropriate PPE is used
  • Promoting safe use of cleaning equipment
  • Ensuring cleaning products are handled and stored correctly
  • Reporting accidents, incidents and hazards
  • Maintaining safe working areas
  • Following site-specific procedures and risk controls

Essential Requirements

  • Previous supervisory experience within the cleaning, facilities management or similar sector
  • Experience coordinating or supervising cleaning staff
  • Good understanding of professional cleaning standards
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a management team
  • Professional approach to clients and colleagues
  • Willingness to work flexibly according to operational requirements

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Commercial cleaning
  • Student accommodation / PBSA
  • Deep cleaning
  • End-of-tenancy cleaning
  • Property management
  • Hospitality
  • Healthcare environments
  • Transport or fleet cleaning
  • Large-scale cleaning projects
  • Multi-site cleaning operations

Knowledge or experience of COSHH, RAMS, risk assessments and quality assurance procedures would also be advantageous.

Working Requirements

Depending on the contract, you may be required to:

  • Work early mornings, evenings or weekends
  • Travel between client sites
  • Supervise teams during busy cleaning and turnaround periods
  • Work across different commercial environments
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Support the cleaning team directly when required
  • Work to agreed deadlines and turnaround times

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle may be advantageous for certain assignments involving travel between sites.

DBS & Pre-Employment Checks

A DBS check may be required depending on the duties of the role, client requirements and working environment.

Where a DBS check is required, the appropriate level will be determined in accordance with the role's legal eligibility and current DBS requirements.

As a Cleaner, you will be responsible for delivering a consistent standard of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across our clients' premises.

Our cleaning work covers a range of environments, including commercial offices, student accommodation, residential properties, communal areas, deep-cleaning projects and other client sites.

This role is suited to someone who takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail and understands the importance of reliability, professionalism and respect for clients and their property.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cleaner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out cleaning duties in accordance with the agreed cleaning specification and schedule
  • Cleaning offices, communal areas, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and other designated areas
  • Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping floors
  • Dusting and cleaning surfaces
  • Cleaning toilets, washrooms and sanitary areas
  • Cleaning kitchens and food preparation areas
  • Cleaning internal glass and other accessible surfaces
  • Emptying bins and removing waste in accordance with site procedures
  • Cleaning high-touch areas such as door handles, switches and handrails
  • Carrying out deep-cleaning and periodic cleaning tasks when required
  • Using cleaning equipment and products correctly and safely
  • Following instructions provided by the Team Leader or Supervisor
  • Reporting damage, defects, hazards or maintenance issues promptly
  • Leaving work areas clean, safe and ready for use

Health, Safety & Compliance
